Leaves:
- scale-like (smaller than Thuja)
- branchlets usually flattened
Cones:
- roundish “soccer ball”
- opposite scales
- peltate (umbrella shaped)
- monoecious
Other notes:
- trees with nodding leader
- leaves sometimes unpleasant smelling
- “Chamae” means dwarf, but many Chamaecyparis are very large
