- flask-shaped
- seed have silky hairs to aid in dispersal
- wind dispersed
Other notes:
- trees to 90 ft. or shrubs
- deciduous
- winter buds with one scale
- usually found in wet soils
- hybridizes easily – makes identification to species difficult
