  • capsules
  • flask-shaped
  • seed have silky hairs to aid in dispersal
  • wind dispersed

Other notes:

  • trees to 90 ft. or shrubs
  • deciduous
  • winter buds with one scale
  • usually found in wet soils
  • hybridizes easily – makes identification to species difficult
